Development of industrial education

ODIN Engineering’s CEO Mads S. Rasmussen has joined an education committee in TEKNIQ Arbejdsgiverne. This committee guides the representatives of the employer organisation on how to develop and strengthen the industrial education programmes.

The background is ODIN’s long-time involvement in educating more young people for an exciting future and secure career in the industry.

”At ODIN, we have a strong tradition of training our employees, from skilled metal workers and industrial technicians to mechanical engineers during their internships. In addition, we offer training on the job through exciting tasks both at the machine factory in Slagelse and at customers around the world,” says Mads S. Rasmussen adding:

”As a member of the education committee, I have the opportunity, together with other companies, to inspire the TEKNIQ representatives who participate in the professional committees, for example, for the metal worker and industrial technician education”.

More skilled workers and our local network

In the past 10 years, only one in five young people have chosen vocational education as their first choice of education after primary school. If this trend continues, companies will increasingly lack skilled employees. Our local network Flere Faglærte in which ODIN Engineering is actively involved, was formed on the basis of this common challenge. Our EA & HR Manager Britta Hvalsø Olsen assists the secretariat group of the network.

The purpose of the network is to help ensure the necessary and qualified workforce that we need now and in the future. We do this based on the needs of the companies and with representatives from the industry, municipality, and educational institutions as well as other interested parties, who all contribute their knowledge, experience, and ideas so that together we can create a better future for education, industry, and society. By forming a united front, we achieve results that help ensure skilled labour and education.

An exciting and secure career path

”Having a wide range of customers, we’re not dependent on specific industries. We develop solutions and produce special machines for all branches of industry. Most often it’s a solution with a unique machine. This also means that all our employees, from floor sweepers and production to office and engineers, are on their toes every day, and must adapt to new challenges and new solutions. Most often solutions that have not been seen yet. An exciting and secure career awaits those who choose to become a metal worker, industrial technician, constructor or engineer with us,” says Mads S. Rasmussen.

It is therefore essential that ODIN can secure skilled employees for the house. One part of that strategy is also to be active in various committees and initiatives to make a difference and contribute with our experience.

One of the topics at the recent meeting in the education committee of TEKNIQ Arbejdsgiverne was how to design campaigns to make young people more aware of the attractive career opportunities that an industrial education offers. Here, it is obvious to use the experience of the companies.

A boost to the vocational schools and educations

The Social Democratic Party’s spokesman on vocational education and member of parliament Thomas Skriver Jensen, who is himself a trained industrial technician, also participated in the latest meeting of the education committee:

”It’s encouraging to hear that the government wants to boost vocational schools and vocational education significantly. It’s essential that young people who choose a vocational education meet modern teaching facilities and an inspiring study environment. A place where they can prepare for their future in the industry and thrive during their education. The study environment in particular should have great focus, both when the students are at school and especially when they are with the companies,” says Mads S. Rasmussen.
