Machining metal parts in XXXL format demands its workforce
ODIN Engineering has the capacity and the experience to machine very large, heavy or complex components – up to dimensions of 8 × 3 × 1.4 metres – and as far as we know, ODIN is the only one with that capability on Zealand and the islands. The machine workshop manufactures components both for the special machines that ODIN develops for other companies, and as a subcontractor.
”Our machine workshop is equipped to manufacture virtually all the components that go into our special machines for other industrial companies,” says CEO Mads S. Rasmussen.
”Our Zayer milling machine is part of our production resources, and with it we solve some truly heavy, large and complex tasks – both for our own projects and as a subcontractor to other manufacturers,” he explains.
Precision machining in XXXL dimensions
Workpieces up to 8 x 3 x 1.4 metres can be machined at ODIN Engineering’s Zayer station in Slagelse.
”That’s roughly the size of one of the largest Sprinter vans, if you need a visual reference – and when we machine, the tolerance goes down to 0.02 mm in the working area. We also have the experience to manage the factors that can affect tolerance, such as heat, material stresses and vibration,” says Mads S. Rasmussen.
The advanced 5-axis CNC milling machine has various clamping setups and a rotary table for 4 tonnes. This makes it capable of handling all conceivable shapes, and offers many possibilities for efficient production of advanced, heavy and large components.
Experienced designers and machine builders
“When we are entrusted with a subcontracting job, our customers can draw on our experienced engineers. They advise during the design phase on how to optimise the design and production of the components,” says Mads S. Rasmussen.
”Our industrial technicians, who operate the Zayer know that there are often very large sums ‘locked up’ in the machine, and a mistake can mean scrapping an entire workpiece. That’s why it’s important to support and encourage our employees to use their skills with confidence. We all know errors will happen – some can be costly – and those are the ones we learn the most from.”
ODIN’s employees are used to taking responsibility. They manage the projects and ensure that the workshop’s deliveries are completed on time, within budget and according to specifications, always maintaining the highest quality.
”At ODIN we think in wholes, and that creates well-considered, coherent and cost-efficient solutions for all customers,” says Mads S. Rasmussen.
Easy access to materials and components
At the Zayer milling station there is crane capacity up to 20 tonnes, and additional crane capacity can be added depending on the weight of the component. There is also space for a low-loader at the machine, making it easy to deliver large and heavy raw materials – and to collect the finished parts. ODIN Engineering can also assist in arranging transport of the components. Moving large parts can quickly become expensive if the logistics are not well planned.
When we produce special machines, we often handle the entire contract – from the first sketch to installation and production at the customer’s site. This means the customer has one number to call if there is anything – and the same applies to subcontracting work.
If you are curious to know whether we can handle your task, we are only a call or a visit away.
